Aurangabad District Magistrate Suharsh Bhagat said the district medical officer has been ordered to investigate and submit a detailed report More than 60 people fell ill after consuming food at a wedding ceremony in Bihar's Aurangabad district late on Sunday, prompting the administration to rush a nine-member medical team to the village today.
The incident took place in Manjhauli village under the jurisdiction of Pouthu police station in Rafiganj block.
Rafiganj Block Development Officer (BDO) Upendra Das said, “Hundreds of people dined and nearly 60 guests fell ill. They are undergoing treatment at the Community Health Center (CHC), Rafiganj.
Four of them identified as – Munsi Paswan, Amit Kumar, Bikram Kumar and Suresh Paswan – were referred to Aurangabad sadar hospital in a serious condition.
The CHC was packed with disabled people and several children and adults were forced to lie on the floor.
Dr AK Keshri of CHC said around 60 people are being treated at the hospital."According to the preliminary report, these people were affected by food poisoning," he said. District Magistrate Suharsh Bhagat said, “People were treated at CHC for some food contamination and the situation is under control.
Food samples have been taken by the food department for suspected food poisoning, which will be sent for examination.He added that the District Medical Examiner has been tasked with investigating and submitting a detailed report.
Earlier on Friday evening, 250 people, including 150 women and 50 children, were hospitalized in Banka district due to food poisoning. The incident took place in Chhira village under Surya police station after people consumed mutton rice in a feast.
